Young adults with a disability and autism are building real-world skills in a brand new simulated supermarket learning space thanks to the launch of the Sunshine Coast’s first Mini Woolies at STEPS Pathways College.
Developed in partnership with Woolworths Group, the fully immersive Mini Woolies space replicates a functioning supermarket within a classroom, complete with shelves, signage, baskets, registers and branded uniforms. The initiative offers students the opportunity to practise numeracy, communication and customer service skills in a safe and supportive environment.
STEPS Pathways College Executive Principal and CEO of STEPS Social Business Stephanie Patey said everyone is excited about the new addition to campus and sees it as a valuable tool for student development.
“We are extremely proud to launch the STEPS Mini Woolies site and look forward to the countless number of opportunities it will provide our students to practice new skills in an extremely engaging learning environment,” Ms Patey said.
“Our STEPS Mini Woolies site will be an incredible addition to STEPS Pathways College and will further enable us to provide our students with holistic education that empowers them with the skills and confidence to reach for the sky and live their very best life,” she said.
The Mini Woolies program was created by Woolworths Group in 2018 to support hands-on learning for students with a disability. Since its launch, the program has expanded to more than 100 sites across Australia and New Zealand.
While the Mini Woolies is not open to the public, the space is now integrated into STEPS Pathways College’s curriculum; Trainers and volunteers will use the Mini Woolies to create immersive learning experiences that connect to the College curriculum.
STEPS Pathways College is now accepting enrolments for 2026.
